The University of Aberdeen has an exciting opportunity for an Analyst to join the Grampian Data Safe Haven (DaSH). DaSH, established in May 2012, is a joint venture between the University of Aberdeen and National Health Service (NHS) Grampian to process health and care data. DaSH is accredited and part of the Scottish Federated Network of approved safe havens. Our data partnerships enable scalable Scotland-wide research with demonstrated ability to replicate across the UK and Globally.
About the Job Role
In this role you will be working at the cutting edge of health data science research supporting both internal and external customers in innovative analyses of a wide range of data. You will work in a team of Analysts responsible for the creation of study data sets derived and extracted from NHS health care and other data systems, anonymised and made ‘analysis ready’.
We are seeking an enthusiastic Analyst to join the Grampian Data Safe Haven. You should be educated to degree level in a numerate, computing or data science degree, or have relevant demonstrable experience. A postgraduate degree in a numerate, computing or data science degree would be advantageous. You should be adept at SQL queries, and a knowledge of R and/or Python coding, as well as SPSS and STATA, would be advantageous. You should be comfortable linking complex datasets across different SQL databases. You should be comfortable writing both technical and user-focussed documentation.
You will provide data extraction and linkage services across health and social care data to researchers and clinicians, supporting all DaSH projects but particularly supporting The Health Foundation Networked Data Lab (NDL) projects. You will be based in the Directorate of Digital and Information Services (DDIS), as well as the Aberdeen Centre for Health Data Science (ACHDS) and will join our multi-disciplinary team to contribute to the analysis of unique large-scale electronic health record datasets to address the key challenges facing health and care in the UK today.
You will be committed to working to high standards of open and reproducible science. An understanding of the Information Governance and Information Security requirements of working with personal and sensitive data within the United Kingdom, and working in a research environment (preferably in a secure data setting or trusted research environment) would be advantageous.
You should possess strong programming and analytical skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills enabling you to interact and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders across the University, NHS Grampian and external. Attention to detail and proactive communication are essential. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are a requirement alongside well-developed organisational skills and the ability to work to timescales across projects with competing priorities.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 6, £36,333 – £43,155 per annum, with placement according to qualifications and experience.
